Modern Foreign Languages

Our MFL curriculum focuses on the progression of knowledge and skills, as well as discreet vocabulary progression for each unit of work. It aims to develop children’s communication skills, including key skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening and extend their knowledge of how language works.

At Grange Community Nursery and Primary School, we believe learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social, and cultural experience for our pupils and is vital to becoming a global citizen.  Our MFL curriculum helps children to appreciate the language, culture, religion, and people of other countries, appreciating their similarities and differences. We provide a range of opportunities for children to celebrate languages, including European Day of Languages.

European Day of Languages

Each year, we celebrate the European Day of Languages to give our children the opportunity to experience a wide range of cultures and languages. Each class spend the day experiencing a country of their choice. We explore their language, culture, food, music and traditions. Each class then sample one of their chosen countries’ national delicacies.
