At Grange Community Nursery and Primary School, we have a school council which is a formal group of pupils, who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views. This provides a meaningful way for the pupils of Grange to have their voices heard and their opinions to be taken into consideration and, in many cases, acted upon.
The school council have been pivotal in many decisions and ideas that have been implemented, including: new play equipment for break and lunch times, promoting healthy snacks and lunches and helping to choose the new school uniform. The school council also play a valuable role in the community and have participated in many events from holding charity bake sales, ensuring safe parking around our school grounds, litter picking and judging competitions. They have visited other local schools to discuss community projects and have attended local care homes and the food bank to show their support.
Representatives are elected in a democratic way at the beginning of an academic year and the opportunity to nominate themselves is open to all children from Early Years to Year 6.
