Topsy and Olive – our very own school therapy dogs
Animal therapy is a fun way of providing emotional support to young people. Topsy and Olive are our school therapy dogs. Studies have shown that animals can make great therapists helping to improve confidence, cognitive abilities and well-being.
At Grange Community Nursery and Primary School, we are lucky enough to have a four-legged member of staff who plays a key role in helping our pupils. Topsy is a whippet and Olive is a Miniature Schnauzer and they are both invaluable members of our team. Their work at school is varied and they provide pupils with courage, confidence and companionship.
They are both friendly and outgoing and love to be stroked and fussed.
Pupils at the school can spend time with Topsy and Olive if they are having a difficult time or are anxious. Some children even prefer reading to Topsy or Olive rather than adult staff, it is really good to be able to read to a non-critical friend. They are there to listen to us when we are feeling unhappy and they love to walk with us, while we are exercising on the school field.
Topsy and Olive are much-loved members of our school and their work here is invaluable.
